CREATING
Explore essential questions, big ideas, and/or themes in personally relevant ways
Document process (e.g. journal-keeping, sketches, brainstorming lists).
PRESENTING
Write an artist statement by reflecting on finished works of art.
CONCEPTS
How can artists investigate personally meaningful content?
How can we uncover the layers of meaning within an artwork and distinguish relevant from irrelevant information to understand the artist's intent?
How do artists recognize when their work has achieved its intended purpose and effect?
Watch the video What Is Perspective? Observe a demo of two-point perspective drawing. Ask and answer questions about how to create the illusion of depth in a drawing using two-point perspective, size and placement of objects, overlapping, and atmospheric perspective.
Practice drawing rectangular prisms in two-point perspective. Include the horizon line, vanishing point, orthogonal, and parallel lines. Follow the steps outlined in the Two-Point Perspective Practice resource.
Brainstorm ideas of personal future goals. Discuss how these can become inspirations for views of scenes and how these views can be illustrated using two-point perspective. Sketch ideas for the views. Include at least two building structures drawn in two-point perspective.
As large as possible, draw a pair of sunglasses on the large paper. The sunglasses will act as a frame for the personally relevant goals.
Within the sunglasses, draw personally relevant goals using two-point perspective for building structures and, when necessary, for additional objects.
Add details to the background space to give it an atmosphere in the negative space.
Color the composition using watercolors, markers & colored pencils
Ink the drawing using a black ultra-fine permanent marker or rollerball pen. Reflect on the completed artwork by completing an artist statement. Analyze and interpret the moods and ideas conveyed in the artwork created by peers.
