CREATING
Engage in an array of processes, media, techniques, and/or technology through experimentation, practice, and persistence.
Visualize and generate ideas for creating works of art.
Document process (e.g. journal-keeping, sketches, brainstorming lists).
CONCEPTS
How do artists transform their initial ideas into compelling artistic expressions?
What role do persistence and experimentation play in overcoming challenges in the art-making process?
Experiment with each type of resist individually in a sketchbook. Create a series of thumbnail experiments, trying at least two different resist techniques together.
Reflect on the outcomes created in the sketchbook. Discuss the uses, advantages, and disadvantages of each resist method and thumbnail experiment. Write responses in the sketchbook.
Create a developed image in the sketchbook using the preferred resist techniques based on the outcome reflection.
Add details to the image using a black permanent marker or pen. Enhance the work further with a more detailed layer of acrylic paint.
Present the developed image to peers. Reflect on the process of experimenting before developing an artwork. Evaluate how sketchbooks can be used in the future, as a class.
