Student Deadlines & Due Dates
At an IB Advisory Council meeting, our parent members brought to our attention the need of parents of 9th, 10th and 11th graders to be aware of our resources to help you and your child feel comfortable embarking on the eventual college application process. It is important to us that you feel supported as you look ahead for your child’s future.
The internet provides a wonderful resource for the start of your research with your child into how to prepare for college and how to apply to college. Our school website has a “Parent and Student Resource” page containing information for NCAA qualifications, college visits scheduled for our school, and other documents: http://henricohighschoolcounseling.weebly.com/college-visits. In addition, school counseling has a page which contains some of the same information as well as the monthly scholarship newsletter and junior and senior handbooks which give a detailed timeline for the college process and lists of resources: http://henrico.k12.va.us/hs/henrico/2909.html. Finally, our counselors, and I are always eager to meet with parents to answer questions or offer suggestions in starting the process of getting ready for college. You may call or email the Counseling or IB office to set up an appointment.
At the websites, you can see that the school hosts weekend events for everything from SAT prep to understanding the common application to filling out the FAFSA, the financial aid form. In IB we hold a parent meeting in September for freshmen/sophomores and junior/seniors. Ms. Terry and I are available at those meetings to provide information.
So, if you would like help getting started or would like information on how to get started, please do not hesitate to use the above resources.
