Visual Arts

Art 1

Art 1 is a foundation class that will give students a broad understanding of the elements and principles of design along with how to apply them to their artwork. The course focuses on learning essential skills and techniques needed to further artistic expression. Students will explore various mediums, create multiple pieces of artwork, and work on improving their craftsmanship throughout the year.

Art 2

This course is intended to further students’ exploration of the elements and principles of design. The class focus will be on purposeful decision making to create art in various mediums to serve different purposes. Students will build upon previous knowledge while working on drawing, two-dimensional design, and three-dimensional design.

Art 3

Continue to develop your techniques and skills at a higher level. This class combines both technical and conceptual projects that build towards Advanced Placement Studio Arts .

AP Studio Art

Each course offers college credit and is based on independent study practices. Students must be Juniors/Seniors, taken at least 2 Art classes and recommended by their Art teachers.

As part of Godwin Visual Art classes we also offer other opportunities to continue to develop your skills and participate in the Arts. Art Club meets regularly and is open to all students. Juniors and Seniors who have taken at least 2 years of an Art class can participate in National Art Honor Society.

Prerequisites

Courses must be taken in sequential order; students must have completed Art 3 to enroll in AP Studio

Extension of Study

Juniors and Seniors who have completed at least two high school level art classes with a 90 average or above qualify for National Art Honors Society
