In Ceramics, the students will learn more about the field of visual arts through handbuilding techniques using the Ceramic medium. The students will be taught how to create functional and artistic pieces using clay. They will be able to practice and expand upon skills learned throughout the school year through each project. They will also learn the technical skills involved in creating sculptures from clay, while encouraging their own creativity through structured assignments that leave room for personal expression and creativity.
This course is designed for students who are interested in exploring Ceramics on a more personal level. Each student will be assigned units of study throughout the course of the year. These units of study will ask the students to concentrate on a specific theme or method of construction. Within this unit, the students will be responsible for brainstorming, designing, planning, and executing their work on a proficient level. Ceramics 3 can begin to prepare students for independent work and AP 3D Design.
Courses must be taken in sequential order; students must have completed Ceramics 3 to enroll in AP Studio.
