Building relationships rooted in respect, communication, trust, and equality.
Healthy relationships can look different for everyone, but respect, communication, trust, boundaries, and equality are important foundations. This interactive session helps young people recognize characteristics of healthy, unhealthy, and potentially abusive relationships while thinking critically about how we communicate with and treat the people around us.
Participants will explore:
Characteristics of healthy, unhealthy, and abusive relationships
Communication and conflict resolution
Trust, respect, independence, and equality
Personal and relationship boundaries
How jealousy and control can become unhealthy
Ways to support a friend who may be experiencing an unhealthy relationship
Activity for This Session: The Relationship on Trial
Participants will be divided into two teams and presented with a fictional relationship case involving questionable behaviors, boundaries, communication, and trust. Each team will be assigned a perspective and given time to use what they learned during the session to build and present their argument.
After both sides make their case, the group will come back together to identify healthy, unhealthy, and potentially controlling behaviors and discuss how both individuals could communicate and respond differently.
The goal isn't simply to decide who's “right” or “wrong”; it's to practice recognizing the complexities of real relationships and what healthy communication can look like.
