Welcome to the River Oaks Library!

I’m Mr. Johnston, and I’ve been teaching in Halton for 14 years now. I have taught every grade from kindergarten to grade 8, and I’m very excited to be joining River Oaks as a full time teacher-librarian!

I am hoping to keep the library as a place you love to visit in the school. Not only will we have great books to choose from, but I will be working with you on some cool projects as well. Robots, computers, podcasts, 3D printing, coding...expect to see all of these things and more in the River Oaks library!

As a reader, I tend to read science fiction, fantasy, science non-fiction and news/political, although I visit all types of reading from time to time. I have two children and they tend to like books with a lot of humour and great artwork.

Pop on by the library to say hi or to talk books any time! I will be running some clubs and quiet reading times at breaks as well, so there will be lots of opportunities to use our amazing space!

Parents! Are you interested in volunteering in the library? I’m hoping to have some parents who are interested in shelving books and/or helping out with the occasional project. If you’re interested, please email johnstonma@hdsb.ca
