Aldershot's Multimedia SHSM
Program Overview
Arts & Culture is continually reinventing how we interact with each other and with our communities through storytelling. The Multimedia Production SHSM at Aldershot School will provide students with a multidisciplinary perspective and skills that will help them stand out in the field while also developing unique creative problem solving skills. Students will be able to continue with the creative industries related courses that they are most drawn to while exposing them to new ones through certifications, co-op opportunities, field trips, and guest speakers. The versatility of this SHSM provides students with a clearer view of how this sector truly operates and the multitude of job opportunities within it, regardless of their pathway. Students can expect to learn about audio production, digital music production, video production, graphic design, marketing, entrepreneurship, and game design.
How Does It Work?
The Multimedia SHSM program offers students a bundle of 9 Grade 11 and 12 credits that are the most relevant courses to prepare students for a future in the arts and culture sector. Here are your course options:
You will need to take at least 4 of the following major credits:

Comm Tech (General) -
TGJ3M / TGJ4M
Comm Tech (Video) -
TGV3M / TGV4M
Comm Tech (Audio) -
TGR3M / TGR3M
Music
Music & Computers -
(AMM3M / AMM4M)
Instrumental Music -
(AMI3M / AMI4M)
Arts
Digital Photography -
(AWQ3M / AWQ4M)
Visual Arts -
(AVI3M / AVI4M)
Drama -
(ADA3M / ADA4M)
Additionally, you will need to take:
2-Credit Co-op
This should be a sector related placement and is the responsibility of the student to find the placement. Some opportunities may exist, so ask!
Grade 11 Math
This is already a mandatory course for your Diploma (yay!) but SHSM students will complete a unique sector specific project in this course.
Grade 12 English
Again, this is already a mandatory course for your Diploma (yay!) but SHSM students will complete a unique sector specific project in this course.
Lastly, you will need to take one of the following supporting credits:
Marketing
Accounting
Law
World History to the 15th Century
I-Stem IDC
Why Take This SHSM?
We get it. You have so many amazing options to choose from if you're interested in a SHSM. What a great problem to have and, in all honesty, you can't go wrong but here's the case for the Multimedia SHSM. Whether you're destined for the creative industries or not, the skills you develop in this SHSM is extremely valuable and transferrable to any path you find yourself on. Be able to create content that tells stories is important for enriching our communities, for businesses to better find their customers, and being able to express and celebrate our uniqueness' to the world. These skills aren't just for fun. There are huge growing industries in many of the sub sectors of the field whether it's the massive video game industry, the fast developing profession as a content creator, or TV/film. Canada is a hotbed for work in these exciting fields and you could be a part of it!
