BVS Bulldog Buzz

Welcome to our Bulldog Buzz

2022-2023 December-January Edition

From the Desk of Principal Lauer

Greetings BVS School Community!

I hope that everyone fared well during our recent snow event. It was fun seeing pictures of our BVS students enjoying time outdoors on their days away from school. We are getting into the heart of the holiday season, which is a fun and exciting time here at BVS. Staff and students will be enjoying our annual Joy Day Festivities on Friday, which is time for each classroom to just be together as they make their classroom and our school look festive for the month on December. We also have our 4th and 5th grade Band, Orchestra, and Chorus concerts taking place the evening of December 13. Always an exciting time as our musicians take the stage for the first time since coming together in the new school year. Over the course of next couple of months, our PTSA has some events that will be taking place in school for students, as well as some evening family events.

I will give another plug for joining our PTSA and for jumping in to volunteer when you can. We are so appreciative of the events and opportunities that come to students, staff and families through our PTSA, but these things also take time and effort. When it comes to volunteers to facilitate events, the more the merrier!

Speaking of being merry, I want to wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season. May your days be filled with joy and laughter, and with all of the people and things that you love!

School Volunteers

If you are interested in serving as a school volunteer, please call the main office for more information. Those wishing to volunteer in the classroom, at PTSA events, or to chaperone field trips do need to complete our school volunteer training in advance of any of these opportunites. This training must be completed each school year. We recommend completing this process now so that you are ready to go when volunteer opportunities arise.

Mrs. Allen in the Art Studio Presents...

Mrs. Allen in the art studio is piloting a digital portfolio program called Artsonia. Artsonia is a digital portfolio where students get to share their artwork with their parents during the school year, and parents can leave comments, share with family and friends on social media, and even have the ability to purchase your favorite artwork on merchandise like tshirts, ornaments and more! Portions of the purchase come back to the art room to buy fun things to enrich the art making experience. This digital portfolio will stay with BVS students throughout their time at BVS, and if you sign up for a parent account students can share artwork they make at home too! If you haven't had a chance to sign up for your parent/guardian account, please go to: https://www.artsonia.com/connect/DZ8FCJ8Y and use code DZ8FCJ8Y

Counselor's Corner

With the Holidays in the air, it is a great month to discuss the importance of giving. Our December Power Word will be, GENEROSITY. The definition of generosity is the quality of being kind and abundant to those around you.

The willingness to give without expecting something in return is a wonderful character trait that takes a lot of practice! Often when people think about generosity they think about buying someone something. This month we will be discussing and recognizing that there are many other ways to be generous. Here are some examples of ways we can be generous that doesn’t involve buying: giving our time, sharing our talents/strengths in a helpful way, giving our love and support often. Please help us embrace the importance of generosity this month as well as the understanding that when we give both parties are left feeling happy, fulfilled and successful.

We look forward to serving your child this school year! Both breakfast and lunch are available each day. Please note that meals are no longer served free of charge.

Meal prices for this school year are as follows, $1.75 for breakfast and $2.75 for lunch.

We kindly ask that you consider using the My School Bucks option to pay for your child's school meals. This option also allows you to track your child's purchases in the cafeteria and will send notification when funds need replenished. If you prefer to pay with cash or a check, please send your payment to school in a sealed envelope labeled with both your child's name and his/her teacher's name, as well as the amount of the payment. Envelopes will be collected in the classroom and sent to the cafeteria.

News from the Office:

Our Main Office staff is looking forward to connecting with you this school year. When you call the Main Office, you can expect to speak with Mrs. Susan Bunch or Mrs. Doreen Bailey. A couple of things to keep in mind as we get the year started:

  • Requests for bus passes are not able to be accommodated. If your child will be getting on or off the bus at a location other than your home on a regular basis, you do need to submit an Alternate Site Request. These requests can take up to 10-business days to process, so please be sure to submit in a timely manner.

  • If there is a change to your child's daily dismissal, please send a note to school with your child indicating the change. Your child will turn this note into their teacher and it will then be sent to the Main Office.

  • If you need to change your child's dismissal plans during the school day, please call the Main Office as early as possible for assistance.

  • We appreciate your understanding that we are not able to put phone calls through to classrooms during the school day when staff are teaching. If you need to speak with a teacher, we will connect you to their voicemail so that you may leave a message.

  • We are here for you! Please call if you have a question or need assistance.
