Elective Teacher  |  Technology Specialist  |  Crocker Middle School  |  Hillsborough City School District

I am Troy Hager the Crocker Middle School Technology Specialist and Elective Teacher.

Greetings! I started teaching at Crocker in 1999 and I have enjoyed years of supporting teachers and students with technology and learning. We have seen a lot of technology changes here at Crocker over the past few decades and I am very proud of the programs we have to offer students.

In addition to my technology specialist role, I also teach hands-on elective classes. I run the Crocker HTV Television and Radio studios and teach Makerspace classes. I teach: Crocker HTV Newscast, HTV Intro to Video Communication, and various Makerspace classes across 6-8th grade.

HTV Program: We have a wonderful television studio and a district wide HTV video communication program that highlights events across the district with the goal of teaching students important 21st Century skills. My newscast students produce a daily show and post to our Crocker HTV Newscasts to our YouTube Channel. We have a district HTV video producer who edits and programs content that is posted to HCSD Vimeo Channels serving the Hillsborough Community. Parent volunteers from all schools in the district help film events which are edited and placed on our channels.

Crocker Radio Program: In 2021, the Crocker HTV program took over Crocker Radio and created a professional style radio studio. Small teams of students plan and produce lunchtime music shows that are enjoyed by Crocker students as they eat their lunch. This team also plans live open mic events in the courtyard each month.

Makerspace Program: In 2019, the district raised funding for project-based learning facilities at all school sites. Parents donated to a district "Fund-a-Need" to raise money for this important area. As someone who has worked with my hands and built projects my whole life, I strongly support educational opportunities for our students to explore these areas. I helped design and build the Crocker Makerspace and teach multiple makerspace classes to all Crocker grade levels.
