7. Folders and Notes: Your child will have a very important GO Book. This GO Book is the communication link between home and school. Please return your child’s GO Book to school each day. Items that I need to see should be in this folder (notes, money -labeled with your child’s name, please- book orders, homework, etc.) Please check the folder everyday!

Please EMPTY and RETURN the folder DAILY.

6. Homework: Homework will be sent home when it is meaningful and compliments our lessons. Homework will have a family participation focus including literacy and math. Homework is a great way to reinforce skills practiced at school as well as a method to keep you informed on our lessons.

5. Clothing: Please have your child wear play clothes (kindergartners do get dirty) and comfortable shoes. Please have your child wear his/her gym shoes on gym days. When cold weather comes, please make sure your child wears a weather appropriate jacket to school. Accidents happen. Please send a complete extra change of clothes to leave in their backpack in case of emergency; please put the clothing in a large Ziploc bag with his/her name on it.

4. Snack:We will have snack every afternoon. Please pack something healthy, easy, and quick for your child. (Examples include; goldfish, graham crackers, fruit.) All students who are in need of snack will be offered a healthy “emergency snack”. If you are interested in helping stock our healthy “emergency” snacks, please send them in with your child labeled “emergency” snack. We appreciate any donations.

3. Money: On occasion it may be necessary for your child to bring money to school. Always send money in the GO Book money pouch with the following information on it:

∙ Your child’s first and last name

∙ The purpose for the money (book order, cookie money, lunch money, field trip…)

∙ Teacher’s name

**** Send to school in your child’s GO Book.

2. Changes in Transportation/Picking up Your Child: If your child will be going home differently than normal, a written note is always needed. (For example, Susie will be riding home with Jill today on Bus #3.) The more specific the better! Put this note in your child’s folder.

1. Communication: The district will be changing our method of website development. Look for possible information regarding new classroom websites. We are striving to be more paperless. Thank you for understanding during our learning curve.

You can always communicate with me by writing a note or sending me an

e-mail at amanda.copenhaver@hcs.k12.nc.us. I check email several times a day. (Phone calls can be a challenge with the class in session.)

Family volunteers would be appreciated in the following ways when planned ahead of time:

  • Being a room parent to plan and organize special parties in the year. ☺
  • Supporting students during work time
  • Read to or with students
  • Helping to chaperone field trips.

You can send in a note to let us know what you would like to help with.

Here is our “specials” schedule:

Please wear gym shoes on gym day(s) and mess approved clothes on art day(s).

Monday: Music

Tuesday: Art

Wednesday: P.E.

Thursday: Media

Friday: Computer

Please help your child leave his or her special toys at home. We have lots of activities and materials to keep them busy and happy at school, and toys can be easily lost or broken.

Your child may bring in a treat for their birthday. Please let us know a few days before so we can plan ahead. Cookies, doughnuts or cupcakes are among easy treats to pass out to the group. We will notify you if there are any food allergies.

Thank you very much for the generous classroom shared school supplies. Our classroom also has a yearlong “wish list”. This is an ongoing list, so if you run across a good sale and are able to send anything in we would really appreciate it. Thank you!

  • Hand sanitizer
  • More Kleenex
  • Watercolors
  • More Clorox wipes

Our focus during the first few weeks is on learning our classroom and school routines as well as getting to know each other through socialization and play. We are excited to become a classroom learning community and whole school family.
