Thank you for taking an interest in the Wilde Lake High School Dance Program! The Dance Program includes dance classes for students of all experience and ability levels and the curriculum consists of composition/ choreography, modern, jazz, ballet, and performance.
The following classes are included in the HCPSS Course Catalog and satisfy the Fine Art credit requirement needed for graduation.
Dance I (no prerequisites or experience required)
Dance II (prerequisite: Dance I or by teacher placement at audition)
Dance III (prerequisite: Dance II or by teacher placement at audition)
Dance IV (prerequisite: Dance III or by teacher placement at audition)
Junior Dance Company G/T (requires teacher placement at audition)
Dance Company G/T (grades 10-12, requires teacher placement at audition)
Dance Seminar G/T (grades 10-12, requires teacher recommendation)
Dancers will be placed based on technique, performance quality, musicality, knowledge of choreography, teacher recommendations, and application.
If you are uncertain about your dance placement for next year and have prior dance training in ballet, modern, jazz, or other styles of dance, completing the audition is highly recommended so that you may be placed in the appropriate level for the upcoming school year. If you do not have prior dance experience, you do NOT need to complete the audition. Simply sign up for Dance I, the beginner level dance class!
In order to audition, dancers must complete all 3 parts of the audition (below) by the due dates listed. Deadlines are firm and late submissions will NOT be accepted.
Dance Company expectations:
In addition to having advanced level training in a variety of dance styles, Dance Company members are expected to rehearse, choreograph, and perform. Performances include the Wilde Lake High School Dance Concerts, Howard County Dance Festival, and other showcases or school assemblies that arise during the school year. Additional rehearsals will be called around the time of performances. The main purpose of the Companies is to perform at various functions.
Attendance
It is important that dancers are not excessively absent from school. On the days of a rehearsal or performance, the dancer must attend school for at least half of the school day. During the week of a performance, all company members must attend all tech and dress rehearsals.
Dress Code
Dance Company members may need to purchase dance attire including appropriate dance shoes or tights. Dance Company spiritwear items may be available for purchase but are not required.
Performances
All performances on the syllabus are mandatory for Dance Company members. Some dates are subject to change and additional dates will be added. All performances are mandatory, graded class requirements.
Most importantly, Dance Company members are expected to come to rehearsal ready to dance, explore new choreography, be creative, and have fun!
After auditions, I will email your placement results using the email addresses provided in the Audition Application. Thank you for being patient as it may take a while for results to be communicated. I will also notify the Wilde Lake High School Student Services team so that they may make any necessary adjustments to your schedule for the upcoming school year.
Thank you for your interest in the WLHS Dance Program! I look forward to seeing you at auditions! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Warmly,
Holli Tucci
