This seminar is designed to explore the various types and uses of film through hands-on cinematic exercises. Students will integrate 21st-century technology skills into the creative process to learn how to effectively use digital media for communication. Students will experience the filmmaking process from pre-production to post-production and gain knowledge of filmmaking's professional language. Students will explore sophisticated film and lighting techniques, editing, and potential career opportunities in the film/video industry. In this seminar, students will enhance their visual literacy and writing skills while creating original products like public service announcements, documentaries, and stop-motion films.

Exploring the various types of media
Understanding the history of film
Selecting a topic and developing ideas
Creating a storyboard
Writing a script
Producing and directing a film
Utilizing various camera shots
Editing with a purpose
Looking at films with a critical eye.
Film Seminar is offered for Beginners and Advanced Film students
In years past, the students in Advance Film participate in the Movies That Matter Film Festival and/or the Howard County Film Festival. Their final projects are showcased at the Howard County "Movies That Matter Film Festival and the Howard County Film Festival. These festivals showcase original student films created as part of Film Education.
