Physical Education

Our physical education program is dedicated to helping students learn healthy habits, realize the importance of fitness, discover or hone sport specific skills, and develop responsibility and positive character traits.

I have been a physical education teacher for 16 years and have coached basketball in some capacity for 19 years. I am thankful to teach PE in such an amazing school, with fantastic students, and supportive parents. I look forward to assisting in your child's total development as they navigate their way through Rugby Middle School. At anytime throughout the school year if you should have a question please feel free to email or call the school.

ABOUT THE CLASS

Physical Education class is 45 minutes in duration. Every student is expected to change into a Rugby PE uniform before we begin and change back into their school clothes after we are finished. Lockers are available to temporarily use during class time and locks may be used as well. However, we do not have enough lockers for every boy in the school, so at the end of the period they must take their lock and clothes with them to their other locker. Proper physical education attire is the PE school uniform, clean socks, and athletic shoes. Students also need to have a stick of deodorant, no aerosols please.

Students are required to participate in Physical Education. If a student is injured then a doctor's note is required to excuse them.

Students are graded on their preparation for class and their participation in class. To be prepared is simple, bring the items listed above to PE. A students participation grade is also not overly difficult. We ask each student to "try", meaning they do the best that they can do. I do not subtract points based on skill level or athleticism, as long as they are trying to do their personal best. Each quarter (9 weeks) every student begins with a grade of 100%. Points are subtracted only on a day that a student is not prepared or does not participate at a level they are capable of.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

Conduct yourself professionally and treat others respectfully. Do not say or do anything that you would not say or do at home.

Enter the gym and locker room in an orderly fashion without running or pushing, touching, kicking, etc. Teachers will go over all expectations for entering and leaving.

Get dressed for class, use bathroom, wash hands, use water fountain, quickly and sit down. Once you have done those things feel free to talk to friends QUIETLY.

Our PE department will have a zero tolerance for offensive or abusive language, bullying, horseplay, inappropriate gestures, pulling down someones shorts, touching others inappropriately, hitting, chasing, pushing, kicking, or instigating between students.

Unauthorized use of PE equipment, other peoples belongings, or being out of area is prohibited.

Safety of students will be strictly enforced as it is our number 1 priority.

Do not leave the classroom without permission.

Gym lockers are for class related items. Please do not bring valuables or bulky backpacks to the locker room. No watches or jewelry are to be worn in PE for safety reasons.

Anytime another student makes you feel uncomfortable with there words or actions, ALWAYS report it to your PE teacher. We cannot help you if we do not know about it.

HOMEWORK & ASSIGNMENTS

Homework is simple, always double check to make sure that you are prepared for PE class. You need your PE uniform, clean socks, athletic shoes, deodorant, all in your gym bag.

Also, don't forget that we go outside quite frequently in case you want a long sleeve, extra pair of socks, or an old pair of tennis shoes.
