Let's get started with reading checks.

Homework for language arts is twenty minutes of reading on school nights. Bring the reading material to class.

I hope that sounds simple. I would like for a student to select reading material that interests him or her. It could be a novel, newspaper, magazine, essays, etc. At the beginning of each class, I will check to see if the student brought the material, and if he or she got to read. I track page numbers and often get to talk a minute about what a student is reading. A homework score of 100 is awarded to students who read each day and don't forget to bring the reading material to class.

Reading on a digital device works great, but please have material loaded before class.

Extra time reading? That's extra credit!
