Meet the Teachers

Meet Mrs. Gillespie

I am Patty Gillespie and this is my 30th year teaching. I have been at Marlow since it opened 18 years ago and I have taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Before Marlow opened I taught at Atkinson Elementary. I have degrees in Psychology and Intermediate Education (K - 6) and a Master's Degree in Education. Teaching is my passion and it never gets old. I look forward to every single day coming to be with my school kids.

My family lives in Mills River and my husband and I have two children. My son,Parker, is a senior at West Henderson this year. He is very active in sports and school activities so you may see me at a variety of WHHS events. My daughter, Carlie, is a sophomore design major at NC State.

I love teaching 3rd grade and will teach your child my two favorite subjects - math and science! I believe children learn best through experiences so I give many hands-on opportunities in both math and science. Ms. Holley and I are so fortunate to be able to teach what we each love? Third grade will be an amazing year for your child. I am always excited to see just how much they grow and mature through the year.

I look forward to meeting and working with each of you and your children. Please don't hesitate to email me with any questions or concerns as they arise. Open communication takes care of many issues before they can become problems.

Meet Ms. Holley

Hello! My name is Elizabeth Holley and I love being a third grade teacher at Glenn Marlow Elementary. I have been teaching at Marlow since it opened its doors eighteen years ago. This year, I will be teaching my 12 th year of third grade. I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. I have also been a National Board Certified teacher since 2006. I am proud to say that I am a former Glenn C. Marlow Teacher of the year.

I grew up wanting to be a teacher and I can’t imagine doing anything else that I could find as challenging, exciting, fulfilling and fun! When not teaching, I love to read, walk, knit and spend time with my family, friends, and pets. I have one daughter, Lauren, who lives in Hickory, North Carolina with my absolutely wonderful son-in- law, Joel. They both graduated from North Carolina State University -- - GO WOLFPACK! They FINALLY had my grandson, Benjamin, almost three years ago. He is amazing (of course) and I have added babysitting Benjamin as one of my favorite things to do when not teaching.I am a very lucky and proud mamma,mother-in- law and grandmother!

My love of animals is right up there with my love of kids. Two very important members of my family are my dogs, Opie and Phoebie. Both of them came from local rescue organizations. They bring me so much love and joy so I adore and spoil them at all times. I also claim my classroom kids as my own, so I guess you could say I have MANY wonderful children –- some furry, some not!
