Welcome to Mrs. Schneider's Reading Intervention Classroom Page
Welcome to my classroom. I am excited to be working with students in reading intervention this year. As the reading interventionist, I work with small groups of students to offer additional support in reading. Most students in reading intervention this year will be working in the Read Well or Read Naturally programs which provide instruction and practice in building phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. My goal is to help each student develop and strengthen their reading skills to be able to effectively read and comprehend grade-level text and to help every child reach their fullest potential: to encourage them to explore their interests, support them as they take on new challenges, stimulate them with new information, and challenge them to always strive to do their best and reach for that next level. As individual classes, we will work together to make our classroom a place where each and every student feels safe, valued, and appreciated so students are willing to work together, encourage each other, and take risks.
A little bit about me: I received my BA from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA. Following my graduation in 1982, I accepted a position teaching fifth grade here in Holyoke. I taught fifth grade for twelve years until our daughter, Rachel, was born. After taking eight years off to be at home with her, I returned to the Holyoke School District as a third grade teacher. I taught third grade for twelve years as well before moving to my current position in reading intervention in 2014. I have been married to my amazing husband John for thirty-five years. Our daughter Christie and her family live in Ft. Collins, our son Chad lives here in Holyoke, and our daughter Rachel graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2017 and is currently in Boston attending graduate school at Brandeis University.
I am so thrilled to be able to work doing what I love: teaching children and sharing my passion for reading.
