I grew up outside of Portland, Oregon. I started playing trombone in 4th grade and have been playing ever since. My sophomore year of high school I began playing with the symphonic band at Pacific University and eventually joined the jazz choir my senior year. After high school I studied music education at Pacific University. While there I performed in the Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Jazz Choir, Chamber Singers, and Choral Union while also taking voice and trombone lessons.
After graduating from Pacific I worked a lot of odd jobs until coming to the University of Northern Colorado to complete my teacher certification and obtain a Master of Music emphasising in Music Education. I taught one year in Florence, Colorado as the assistant director of bands.
I am beginning my second year here at Holyoke and am looking forward to helping grow the band and music departments and support the student body however I can.
Mark your calendars now! Band night is September 9 at 6 pm in the high school. This will be the time to meet Mr. Cottam (assuming you haven't already). You will be able to learn more about the program this year and if you need to there will be at least one music store there to rent instruments to students as necessary.
Because of the success in raising $5,000 for the band program, we have scheduled this years sale for October 19. This will be from 9 - 4 in the Old Gym in the high school. There will be another meeting closer to the date to pass out information to parents and students will have meetings that same day to get flyers and street signs. Please plan on having your student(s) helping on October 19th to wave signs around town to drive people to the sale.
