Parents,
I am a HCHS graduate, who went through the woodshop program for 3 years! I went on to Savannah College of Art and Design to pursue a degree in Furniture Design. In 2008, I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Furniture Design. I then continued my education expanding into Cabinet Design as a Kitchen and bath designer for Home Depot. I spent 6 years building custom pieces for many people, while raising my sweet babies who are now getting so big. This is my dream job, and I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity. I am so excited to be here!
I want you as parents to take this opportunity to understand I will not take the severity of this class lightly. Safety is a number one priority. Your child will be required to make a 90% or better on every test they take. As well as understand and operate every machine proficiently. If they are not capable or are not willing they will not pass the class. This may sound harsh, but as I stated earlier, safety is my number one priority. Also, there will be opportunities for students to retake tests, before or after school, to acquire the scores necessary to work in the lab.
This class is a great opportunity to teach your child at home how to manage a personal bank account. After designing a piece, students are required to develop a bill of materials sheet. As they begin working on a personal project, the total cost will be present on the bill of materials sheet. Parents are required to sign and return this sheet. Simply allowing them to write the check and balance their own checkbook would be extremely beneficial to you and your child.

I have provided a checklist for the syllabus packet please sign every form indicated. Thank you for supporting HCHS, the Houston County High Woodshop, and me! I can't wait to get to know your child more each day and begin this journey as their teacher and hope to make a difference in their life!
