Mr. Anderson's Maths

Classes overview

Honors Geometry: This is a half-year honors mathematics course designed to provide a rigorous study of geometry and measurement for students with a solid mathematical background and exceptional commitment to the learning process. This honors course will demand more from the student, and the teacher will have greater expectations than a regular level course. The topics of this course include geometric representations, reasoning and proof, lines, properties of triangles, triangle congruence, right triangles, polygons and circles, geometric probability, properties of solids, and similarity. The instructional emphasis will be to utilize algebraic skills to develop conceptual understanding of the topics.

Prereq: Algebra I and Honors Criteria.

Honors Precalculus: This is a one-year honors mathematics course designed to integrate an extension of the rigorous progression of major topics in Algebra and a study of trigonometry for students with a solid mathematical background and exceptional commitment to the learning process. This honors course will demand more from the student, and the teacher will have greater expectations than a regular level course. The course topics will include algebraic concepts, functions, polynomials, transcendental functions, and systems of equations. The instructional emphasis will be to develop conceptual understanding of topics along with a procedural knowledge of their applications.

Prereq: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Honors Criteria.

CHS 103 College Algebra: This is a half-year college mathematics course offered to seniors through HACC.  Covers the fundamental algebraic operations, exponents and radicals, systems of equations, higher degree equations, logarithms, and inequalities.

Prereq: Minimum of a "B" in Algebra II and Precalculus

CHS 104 Trigonometry: This is a half-year college mathematics course offered to seniors through HACC who complete CHS 103.  Examines trigonometric functions, relationships, and graphs. This course includes identities and trigonometric equations. In addition, complex numbers are included.

Prereq: CHS 103

About me

I'm a 2010 graduate from Dallastown Area High School with a focus in Science and Music.  In 2014, I graduated with high honors from York College of PA with a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education: Mathematics.  In April of 2016, I was hired as a math teacher at Harrisburg High School SciTech Campus.  I quickly became accustomed to the school and now serve as the math department chair and adjunct professor through HACC.  My passion has always been for teaching and having students learn a love of numbers.
