SpringCon Theme
The theme of this spring’s convention is "The Spring in Yellow”, a play on “The King in Yellow” by Robert W. Chambers. Chambers was a prolific author, publishing novels and short stories from 1894 to his death in 1933. He wrote on a wide variety of topics, from historical fiction, romance, and war, as well as children’s books. Many of his works were adapted to the silver screen in the early days of silent film.
Though it was written very early in his career, the short story collection published as The King in Yellow is Chamber’s most known work. Published in 1895, it featured nine short stories as well as a number of poems. The title of the collection is also the title of a fictional play that is referenced in several of the stories, an early example of fictional continuity across works and genres.
This early work of weird fiction led to HP Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith. Later authors such as Lin Carter, Stephen King, and Nic Pizzolatto (creator of True Detective) took inspiration from Chambers.
This spring, bring all of your weirdness to the table, be it gonzo OSR, Cthullu-esque horror, or true crime-style investigations.
