Lewis County

Hazard Mitigation

Welcome to the website for Lewis County's Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP). This website will be continuously updated with plan-related events, documents, and data.

Hazard mitigation consists of cost-effective actions that reduce, limit, or prevent individual or community loss from damaging, harmful, or costly hazards. Mitigation consists of many types of actions, including local planning and regulations, capital improvement projects, natural systems protections, education and awareness programs, and preparedness and response actions. By undertaking mitigation, Lewis County enhances its resilience against future losses, making for safer and more sustainable communities.

The HMP is currently being updated through a collaborative effort between the county, its communities and agencies, the Idaho Office of Emergency Management (IOEM), and members of Hazard Analytics & Resilience Planning (HARP).
