New Zealand and in particular Auckland are in the middle of a sever drought and we may yet again face a summer of water restrictions.
Firstly, we need to look at some of the reasons there is a shortage of water in and around Auckland currently. There is an overuse of this resource but also a severe drought that has gripped New Zealand which has meant a critical rainfall shortage as the video below explains.
TASK 1:
Use Google Drawing to create a poster to promote water conservation in the school. What practical things can we do to save water? If you need inspiration click on the WATERCARE logo for some ideas.
TASK 2:
Find a guide to the different levels of water restrictions. What are they? What level water restrictions is Auckland currently under? Post your answer to your blog, but remember to edit your work.
TASK 3
Ask: What bodies of water are in our local area?
Use mymaps.google.com to locate and pin.
Explain that there is a local waterway near us at school (steam near golf course) - use topomap to locate. Can students add this to their google map? Where has it come from? Where is it going?
