The purpose of the World History program for high school is to help students analyze how change occurs over time due to the development of values and beliefs as well as the evolution of global technology, politics, and economics. The course investigates the history of the world from the onset of the First Global Age through World War II.

In this course students will learn how topics like politics, religion, geography, and ideas about the rights of both individuals and nations affect an interconnected world. Students will be provided with an understanding of how world events affect the development of the United States as the current program in the district will continue study of topics from this course in United States History I & II.

The students will work to develop critical thinking skills by analyzing historical events and both current and recent events with connection to course content. Including other elements of the social studies such as economics, culture, and American history shall augment the study of social studies and further the goal of providing students with an education that will help them become informed citizens with a greater understanding of the interconnectedness of American and global society.

The Honors level of this course is designed as writing-intensive, and offers more opportunities for the advanced student to have academic experiences that will improve their performance across the curriculum. Including other elements of the social studies such as economics, culture, and American history shall augment the study of social studies and further the goal of providing students with an education that will help them become informed citizens with a greater understanding of the interconnectedness of American and global society.
