Summer Program
Program Overview
The University of Hawai'i Mānoa Public Health Scholars Summer Program provides high school and incoming college students a chance to build knowledge and enthusiasm about public health. Students will gain experience being in a college course, connect with other students, and, most importantly, learn about the amazing field of public health!
Program Dates
June 10 – July 19, 2024
Students will meet Monday-Friday from 9:00am - 12:30pm.
Saturday activity where family are welcome to attend will be announced before the start of the program.

Learn About Public Health
Earn 3 college credits after successful completion of PH 201 - Introduction to Public Health
Enroll through the University of Hawai'i (UH) Outreach College
Attend class on the UH Mānoa Campus with college students
Enhance public health knowledge through hands-on activities
Network with public health students, alumni, professionals, and faculty
Learn About Yourself and Connect with Peers
Participate in personal and professional development activities
Goal planning
Healthy lifestyle behaviors
College readiness
Build connections with other students through teambuilding activities
'Ohana Activities
Students and their 'ohana (family) will attend an orientation before the start of the program.
'Ohana will also be invited to attend additional events throughout the summer
Students will showcase their experience with their 'Ohana through a final project
'Ohana and communtiy members are invited to attend the Hō'ike: Program Completion Event
Who Can Apply?
All Hawai'i High School students who are currently sophomores, juniors, and seniors
Students in good academic standing (minimum 3.0 GPA)
Program Cost
$229** - to cover the administrative and program fees for the college course
Students must arrange their own transportation to attend in person on the UH Mānoa campus
daily parking passes can be purchased - https://manoa.hawaii.edu/commuter/students/
limited number of bus passes will be available to support student's transportation needs
Neighbor island students will need to arrange their own lodging on O'ahu
**Full Scholarships Available
Scholarships to fund the program cost are available for students from historically underrepresented and underserved backgrounds described as meeting one of the following criteria:
Students who are the first to go to college in their family
Students who attend a Title I high school or a high school that has low college-going rates
Students with high financial need as confirmed by their high school college counselor
Students who are of the ethnic background that is considered underrepresented in higher education
Students who are of the ethnic background that is considered underrepresented in healthcare professions
