Google is beginning their transition from classic Sites to new Sites, which includes many new features as well as a new look and feel. Right now, you can use both classic Sites and the new Sites. We encourage you to become familiar with the new Sites interface before Google retires the classic interface. We also encourage you to convert any classic Sites you want to keep to the new Sites.

View and Edit
Themes and templates: Like classic sites, new sites has themes and templates. However, at this time, the options are limited. More options will be added in the future.
Tables: The insert table tool is currently not available in new sites. There are three options currently available to insert a table:
Use the embed tool to insert an html coded table.
Use one of the Google Apps (Google Slides, Google Docs, Google Sheets) to embed a table.
Display the information from the table directly onto a sites page.
Attachments: The attachment tool is not available in new sites. You are able to add Google files, YouTube videos, and other content. If your file is not a Google App file (Google Slides, Google Docs, Google Sheets), then upload your file to your Google Drive. Then insert your file using the Drive tool found in the Insert panel on the right.
Page permissions and visitor comments: Creating unique permissions to an individual page, and visitor comments are not available in new sites. It is unknown if these features will be brought back in the future.
Readability adjustment: You can upload any image without worrying if you will need to make text or image adjustments. The readability adjustment tool automatically adjusts your image and the font color to ensure your words can be easily read regardless of the image. You can turn off the readability adjustment tool by placing your mouse over the bottom right hand corner of the banner. Three stars will appear and the words 'Remove readability adjustment'. Click on the three stars to turn off the tool. To turn the readability adjustment tool back on, click on the three stars again.
Truly responsive: Classic sites has a mobile option in the Manage Site window that allows you to set your site to automatically adjust to a mobile phone. Although this is a good feature, the Classic sites mobile option does not make your site a responsive site. If you were to resize your browser window to fit two screens next to each other, the site will not adjust to the size of the screen. A responsive web design allows your site to look good on any device and screen size. You can view what your website would look like on a large screen, tablet, and phone by using the Preview tool located in the upper right hand area. The Preview tool looks like a laptop with a mobile device in front.
