I was the lead editor and author of this 2019 book on heritage language education published by Kuroshio, an academic publisher in language studies in Japan. It was reprinted in 2020.

About the photo: Folks in my hometown Tokushima (徳島) have enjoyed the annual Awa Dance (阿波踊り) festival for centuries. This is an old picture of my father (the one holding the banner for the dance group). When he was still alive, we enjoyed dancing together while chanting. The chant goes like this: “Odoru aho ni miru aho. Onaji aho nara odorana son son! (Those who dance are fools. Those who only watch are fools, too. Well, if you can’t be smart in either way, you might as well just dance!
