The Department of Mathematics at UH Mānoa in Honolulu, HI will host a Fall 2026 Graduate Research Community. The research community will consist of a group of six graduate students in mathematics who will spend the Fall 2026 Semester working together on a common research project. Activities of the research community, including regular professional development activities, will be lead by Daniel Erman and Elizabeth Gross. The research project will be led by Daniel Erman and will focus on the theme of multigraded commutative algebra and toric geometry.
We are looking for interested students to join us!
Applications for students outside of UH Mānoa can be found here. Deadline for applications is March 1, 2026. (You will need to sign into a google account in order to fill out the form. If you don't have a google account, you can email erman@hawaii.edu) We encourage interested students to fill out the application even if they are not 100% sure of their ability to participate. At this stage, we are not seeking a commitment, just a show of interest.
This opportunity is open to graduate students at all stages along their research path, from those who are just beginning (no previous research experience is necessary) to those who are nearing graduation and would like to expand their expertise and research networks. Students from small programs with limited opportunities to connect with other students working in their same research area are especially encouraged to apply.
Note: students will be provided with lodging and a per diem, but will likely also require some form of RA support from their host institution. However, students are encouraged to apply even if they have not yet resolved these funding issues. Erman and Gross will work with the selected students and their home institutions to help resolve any funding issues.
For more information, please email erman@hawaii.edu or egross@hawaii.edu.
