Background Information
The purpose of the Mauna Kea Forest Restoration Project is to restore and maintain the Mauna Kea Forest Reserve for
The goals of the project include:
working to conserve native plants and animals
Overall project methods and procedures.
The research methods were extensive surveys, and the native plants were monitored closely. Each plot had a post, a rope which would then be tied and walk around the post all 360 degrees, the number of native plants you came across in that radius were then marked down. A different method for conducting research was setting traps to control the population of invasive species.
STEM Careers/job that are involved in the program.
The jobs were related to natural resources management. This requires a degree as everyone was knowledgeable on the various native plants.
Knowledge and skills were necessary to carry out tasks.
