Improvements Taking Shape Across Hauppauge

From more comfortable learning spaces to improved facilities for students and the community, bond-funded projects continue to make progress across the district. As work moves forward, several improvements are already complete, while others are entering their final stages or progressing in phases to minimize disruption to the school day.

More Comfortable Spaces for Learning and Activities

Air Conditioning for District Gymnasiums

New air-conditioning systems are being installed in gymnasiums across the district, helping create more comfortable environments for physical education classes, assemblies, performances and other school and community activities.

The Middle School and Pines Elementary gyms are now fully operational. Work continues at Forest Brook and Bretton Woods elementary schools, with installation at the High School progressing as well. Remaining work includes electrical connections, protective equipment and system testing.

Elementary School Bathroom Improvements

Students returned to school with renovated bathrooms at Bretton Woods, Forest Brook and Pines elementary schools. The improvements include new tile, plumbing fixtures and updated finishes, creating refreshed, more functional spaces for students and staff. The bathrooms are in use, and remaining work includes some classroom cabinetry and sink installations. 

Middle School Fields

Work continues on the Middle School baseball, softball and multipurpose physical education fields. New clay infields, completed sod installation, updated irrigation and fencing are among the improvements taking shape. Gates and protective netting have also been installed.

These spaces will support physical education classes, school activities and athletic programs, providing students with improved areas for movement, skill development and outdoor learning. New walkways are also in progress to improve access around the fields and dugouts.

The fields remain closed while the remaining construction work is completed. The district will reopen the areas for use once the work is finished.

High School Athletic Facilities

New bleachers are now ready for use at both the multipurpose fields and baseball field, providing seating for students, families and community members attending school events. The softball field bleacher risers have also been installed and are ready for use.

These improvements support more than competition on the field. They help create welcoming spaces where students, families and community members can gather to cheer on classmates, connect with neighbors and celebrate the experiences that bring Hauppauge together.

Improvements to Building Systems

Middle School Mechanical Upgrades

Mechanical improvements at the Middle School are progressing in stages to minimize disruption to students and staff. Work in the boiler room, including the installation of pumps and piping, is complete. The next steps include preparing for exterior louver installations and continuing piping and ductwork in hallways.

Additional work is being coordinated around the school calendar, with more disruptive portions planned for school breaks.

Door and Security Upgrades

This summer, the district continued upgrading doors and installing digital locking systems to strengthen building security and improve day-to-day access for authorized staff. Bretton Woods and Forest Brook have been completed, with work at Pines, the Middle School and High School planned to continue through March.

The new systems reduce reliance on traditional keys and simplify access management. As the system expands, it is also intended to integrate with lockdown procedures, allowing doors throughout a building to be secured simultaneously during an emergency.
