DAY ONE
I started making some basic code for my musical masterpiece. I also create some backgrounds, with a text and everything.
DAY TWO
I had finished up most of the musical aspects and had turned to the more technical side of things. I also changed the backgrounds and added one sprite, a Trombone slide, in which was used in animation.
DAY THREE
I completed the project and recorded the video. The slide now moves back and forth for like twenty seconds. At the end is a Trombone Solute, signifying the end of the performance. I took out some Drum Blocks as they made the song too long.
The project I created had me think about how my project would go. I had to ask myself some questions and follow up with answers. Will I be working with or without a team, without. The materials I will need to use in order to make the project, a computer and the Scratch program. What I plan to create, a piece of music in Scratch. What unique qualities does it have that separate it from the rest, the animation that most people in the class would not do. Those are the type of questions you have to ask yourself when doing a project.
Using the Scratch program, I created I simple animated song because I wanted to explore into more than just simple movement and control coding. What I mean is that I wanted to create a small song, with some sort of melody or tune, using the music parts of Scratch and combine them with my already gained knowledge. I first got the idea when someone near me said something about getting a computer generated piece of music. I thought that perhaps I could figure out how use the next the musical side of Scratch Programming, I could learn a lot more. The end result was a song playing Trombone, a Bass, and a Drum beat, that is paired with a animation of a person playing the trombone.
During this process, I learned about how to measure rhythmic patterns. This was important as I had to create a tone, or atmosphere, of how the song goes. I realized I could repeat the pattern in some sections, or all the sections in order to make a nice pattern. But I made parts of the song delay, by a second, but delayed.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Empowered Leaner because of how I approached this project. I started it to learn something new, something alien to me, so I started coding into Scratch. I used some instrument and grabbed their notes. I then put the notes in a simple pattern. Say, C-B(b)-B(b), and repeat that, and what do you have, a melody in someone's term. I learned how to mix sounds to have them sound better together.
A challenge I overcame on this project was making the video for the project. I was able to do it by being calm and collective, and heading to a much quieter room. I then took the time to record, if I messed up I would delete the video and start all over. I finally finished and it was much better quality than the last few times.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the length and or tone of the song. The reason why I would change it is because it isn't the best it can be. It is good, but I know it can be better, perhaps I would add more rhythms and/or change the line up of instruments. It can be better, i just need to be better prepared.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Computer Programming CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in Video Editing. Video Editing has a lot of things required to be done. One such task is cutting and pasting the sections around, coding in sound effects and animations, whether complex or not. Those skills are ones I have shown during the time of myself working on Project 5.
