This section of code is for the Table and Chairs. It was one of the longest and hardest parts of the project.
This section of code is for the Staff operated areas, like the bar stand, kitchen, and the jukebox. This was not necessary so it was just the final bits of topping on this cake.
This section of code was dedicated to the outside of the Tavern, this was probably the easiest part of the project.
This video shows off the completed tavern in its 16-bit glory. The Agent and the Bartender talk a bit. After a little bit of ordering, I go over to the jukebox, and starts to play off the stage.
Using Minecraft Education Edition, I created a small Tavern because I wanted to emulate the feeling of being in a tavern without having to go to one. The Tavern is an idea that I came up with as I thought about alternatives to meeting in person during the quarantine if one shall every came back. I also wanted a template for story purposes. Like set the start of the story inside this tavern.
During this process, I learned that turning the agent is an inefficient movement of code, instead you should have him face one direction and move in the you want him to instead of having him turn. For one example, I made the Agent make the floor to the box building and he faced forward the entire time. I had him do this was because he could mess up and not fill in all of the blocks.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Creative Communicator because of the way this tavern would work, as a place where people could hang out and share stories and ideas on what to do.
A challenge I overcame on this project was using the Agent to build the more complex shapes like the chairs. I was able to do it by giving the Agent more complex commands, like telling him to run zigzags at on point, another time I had him making a lump of brick as the chair. But at the end I made him make a U shape and then placed in a slab to finish up the design. I tried to do other designs but they would end in disaster every time. So I settled for this complex, but simple, chair design.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the bartender's appearance and functions. The reason why I would change it is because it is just the normal Steve Bot-3000 model with no function. I would add a chat function and a purchasing function. Perhaps I would add more than just the tavern, and instead add a garden and some sort of street or forest that surrounds the tavern.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Digital Multi-media CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in Mojang's Marketing Group. I could end up in this position by the fact that I can create work that Mojang posts on their media pages, but I can also help with the coding on those type of projects.
