PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Sport and Medical Sciences Academy Students and Parents:

At SMSA, we believe that every student has the capacity and potential to learn, grow and become successful members of our community. We also believe that Discipline, Respect, Dedication, and Responsibility are at the core of our experience and serve as the foundation for individual and collective success. The SMSA community is proud of the diversity in our school, and we consider it one of our greatest strengths. We are fortunate to have students, families, and staff members representing many cultures, ethnicities, and religious faiths from around the world. I encourage every student to take full advantage of cultivating an understanding of the varied cultures represented in our school.

SMSA is committed to providing every student with a healthy and safe environment where they can learn, share, and grow. With that in mind, we have established a student handbook that provides student policies, procedures, and rules that govern our school. In addition, the student handbook provides information on graduation requirements, and grading policies including academic and technological integrity, athletic eligibility, clubs, and Hartford Board of Education policies. I strongly encourage all students to read through the handbook with their parents/guardians and be familiar with all its content.

SMSA is a community that develops students’ academic and personal growth to prepare them for the future. Students will be challenged so that they are prepared for post-secondary studies and the 21st century world of work. SMSA also has an extensive array of extra-curricular programs including athletics, student clubs, job shadows, and service learning/internship opportunities. These experiences develop students as individuals and contribute to building a stronger school community.

I am committed to the success of every student at SMSA, and I will work tirelessly to set the conditions to ensure that you learn and flourish as a student and as a person. I welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year and wish you the very best. Remember, ‘You Belong Here’ at SMSA!

Welcome,

Alison Giuliano
