After learning about Monarchs and watching their transformation from, egg, to caterpillar, to chrysalis, to butterfly, first graders have become Monarch experts! In our quest for information about these beautiful and fascinating butterflies, first graders discovered that their population has decreased by 90% in the last 20 years. We posed the question, "How can we help the Monarch butterflies?" First graders have proposed creating a Monarch butterfly garden in a sunny location on school grounds that will include milkweed, perennial nectar plants, rocks (for warmth)and mud (for drinking).
