A Letter to Our Parents
July 29, 2020
Dear Harmony Project KC Teaching Artists and Parents,
We are grateful beyond words for all of your support during our incredibly challenging spring and summer this year. We grieve for all who have suffered and continue to suffer from the Covid-19 crisis. Above all we desperately want to have our students, parents, teachers and volunteers back in the fold here at the Community Center.
As our highest priority is the safety of everyone, we will be following the guidelines suggested by Dr. Rex Archer, Director KCMO Health Department. So we will be starting HPKC virtually on September 1st and continue until the reports change. It’s possible that we will begin to slowly open for small groups
when safe, to come in for private coaching. In the meantime, we have taken several steps during this time to make our campus as safe as possible for re-opening:
• Using Ionization technology in all of our air vents in each building which will deliver a
constant cleaning process of indoor air that is safe and healthy. It promises to reduce
viruses, mold and bacteria.by 85-90%.
• Everyone entering our building will need to wear a mask or face shield. Temperatures will
be taken at the entrance.
• Water fountains will be off limits but replaced with coolers and paper cups
• Hand-washing stations will be readily available in all areas
• Rooms will be sanitized between classes
• Any snacks will be pre-packaged
• Student drop off will be staggered and parents will not enter the building unless necessary
When community transmission rates decrease we will return to an in-person model. We will remain in contact with you all and assist with any learning challenges that may come with the remote classes.
We truly recognize that this decision places a significant burden on students, parents, and team members. Please know that we are balancing this impact against a very real health risk. We will do everything we can to support you all during this challenging time….whether it is program related, or needed social and emotional support; housing or food shortage issues. Call us for anything along those lines and we will help you find solutions.
We look forward to this coming year that will eventually be normal and exciting. In the meantime…let’s all become technology superstars and keep the music flowing!
More detailed information will be coming soon. We have missed each and every one of you and will have much to celebrate in the near future.
Virtual hugs, Laura
Laura Shultz, Executive Director, NECC/HPKC
