Welcome to Pre- k, where the beginning of your child's learning journey starts at Harmony! 

 While your child is having fun through an engaging circle time, play based learning, and table time, they will be learning core subjects that will be able to build onto more through each grade on. Pre-k is the Grade that lays the foundation into your child's education.   

Here's a more detailed breakdown of all the contents will cover:

• Social and Emotional Development: Focuses on building positive relationships, self-regulation, and communication skills. 

• Emergent Literacy: This includes:

Language and Communication: Developing vocabulary, listening skills, and the ability to express themselves.

Reading: Introducing concepts of print, phonological awareness (sounds in words), and early literacy skills. 

Writing: Encouraging pre-writing skills, such as drawing and scribbling, and developing fine motor skills. 

• Mathematics: Explores numbers, shapes, sizes, classifying, sorting, and matching. 

• Science: Covers physical science (properties of objects), life science (plants and animals), and earth and space science (basic weather patterns). 

• Social Studies: Introduces family and community, basic geography, and simple historical concepts. 

• Fine Arts: Encourages creativity and expression through music, art, and movement. 

• Physical Development: Promotes gross and fine motor skills through active play and exploration. 

• Technology: Introduces basic technology concepts and skills. 

These subjects are integrated into a variety of learning activities, including play, exploration, and structured learning experiences Which will be implemented into these units through our curriculum "Learning without tears" the year. 

Learning Without Tears (LWT) uses a developmentally sequenced, multi-sensory approach. The year-long pacing relies on introducing "Magic c letters" (which are our curved letters.)Frog Jump" capital letters (straight and curved lines). The curriculum naturally gives emergent writing and motor skills. 

Fall-

• Academic readiness, body awareness, and large-group activities.

• Activities: Using wooden pieces to build capital letters (e.g., Big Lines, Little Lines), Play-Doh, and coloring.

• Writing: Uppercase letters are introduced first based on developmental stroke difficulty (e.g., L, F, E, H, T, I). 

• Mastering uppercase and introducing lowercase letters.

• Activities: Mat Man activities to develop spatial and body awareness, along with music and movement for letter play.

• Writing: Progressing to "curved" capitals  (C, O, Q, S, U, etc.), followed by identifying and writing lowercase letters. 

Spring-

• Sentence structure, number formation, and print-to-cursive transition.

• Activities: Practicing letters alongside phonics, reading, and self-evaluation pages.

• Writing: Writing basic words and sentences.
