Attendance
It is important that your child be present and on time to school, so your child can be ready to learn by 7:55. If a student is late, he/she must enter through the office to get a tardy slip. Students who are absent or tardy will need to make up work during their free time. Mornings are extremely busy. If you need to talk to me, please email me or send a note with your child. I will check emails during my conference time.
Dismissal
The car riders dismiss at 3:10 and the bus riders dismiss at 3:20. If your child will be getting home a different way than usual, please send me a note or email. You may also call the office so that we are all aware of changes.
Homework
It is important that all students are responsible for his/her learning. Any work not completed in class can be finished at home but must be turned in the following day. If your child does not turn in their homework the day it is due, they will be required to do it during their free time. The class will be rewarded if all students turn in their homework.
Grades
Grades are given for assignments and tests to show skills mastered, goals made, and skills and goals your child will need to work more on. Most other papers are practice and will be checked for understanding, which will not be used for a grade.
Reading
In second grade, most students are moving from picture books to chapter books. Students will be tested and given a reading level. Students are encouraged to read as much as they can at school and home. It is important for you to read with your child every night. Reading out loud is just as important as reading silently. Parents are encouraged to ask their child questions about the book before, during, and after they read.
Parent Teacher Communication

Class Dojo
Hi Parents/Guardians,
This year we will be using Class Dojo in our classroom. This will be our classroom management tracker for the year. Class Dojo is an awesome tool to encourage working together, responsibility, and being prepared. It is an easy way to instantly see your student’s behavior in class. Students will be rewarded points for displaying their awesome behavior. You will also be able to see the skills they need to work on.
I would like all families to join our classroom community and sign up for Class Dojo! I will send home a letter. You can then confirm and set up an account.
It is very simple:
Download the free mobile app for iOS and Android, and you can view from any computer at www.classdojo.com. For more information go to www.classdojo.com/LearnMore.
