Principal's Message
We have many special events planned for the last week of school so please make sure your child is on time and present to participate. We will have field day, a field trip, and special activities on the last day of school like Bingo, board games, playdough, and arts/crafts. It is going to be a great end to the school year. Fundraising Efforts
Thank you so much for supporting our restaurant nights and various fundraisers this year. We are still
working to raise money for a new Maple sign for the front of the school. We are getting very close and will probably be able to purchase it next year.
Staff/Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher appreciation is coming up the week of May 5-9. Check your seesaw account for a way to participate and show the Maple staff how much you care. Each day of the week will have a special theme if you want to participate and send in an item. You can always send any staff member a note or email to tell them how much you appreciate them as well and that is free. As a society we often times will take the time to complain but we don’t take the time to say thank you. Let’s reverse this and find ways to let people know when they are doing a good job, be it in all areas of our life, like in a restaurant, dr’s office, grocery store, your child’s
school etc...
Birthday Lunches
Several students have asked about summer birthdays and when they get to eat with me. Of course, they will get a turn. If your child has a summer birthday the dates are listed in the calendar of events. If your child is absent on that date they can join a different group.
School Nurse Reminders
2nd Grade Students: DENTAL FORMS DUE MAY 15, 2025. If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse, Mrs. Currens, at (815)654-4502 ext. 2. Thank you to all families who turned in their form!!
1st grade students: Dental Examination: Proof of a dental examination is required by the State of Illinois for students in 2nd grade. In preparation for the 2025-2026 school year, schedule an appointment for your student with a dentist or sign the consent when you register your student for 2nd grade to be seen by the dentist who will come to Maple. The completed exam form should be given to the school nurse by May 15, 2026.
5th Grade Students: Physical and Immunization Reminder: A physical examination and proof of immunization are required by the State of Illinois for all students entering 6th grade in a public school. Please schedule an appointment with your physician as soon as possible. First day exclusion will take place for those students who do not have these items turned in to the school nurse on August 19, 2025. If you are unsure of what your child needs or currently has on file, please contact Mrs. Currens at (815)654-4502 ext.2 or email her at susan.currens@harlem122.org.
EC Students entering Kindergarten Fall of 2025: A current Physical and an Immunization form need to be given to the nurses at Parker Center by August 19, 2025. After that date, the student will not be allowed to attend school until the forms are given to the nurses. Other forms required for kindergarten include an eye examination given to the nurse by October 15, 2025, and a dental exam given to the nurse by May 15, 2026. If you have any completed forms now, you can give them to the Maple School Nurse. The forms will be added to your student’s health file and sent to Parker Center May 29th.
Social Emotional Learning - March Lessons
Our social-emotional lessons during the month of May will focus on times of transition as this school year comes to a close and summer begins. Transitions - such as moving to a new grade, adjusting to a new routine, or experiencing changes at home - can be challenging for children. As parents, you can ease this process by maintaining consistent routines, talking openly about upcoming changes, and allowing children to express their feelings. Other ideas on supporting them during these times:
create routines for summer days when off school
offer children choices when possible
keep communication open: encourage your child to ask questions and share how they feel about the changes.
