Good afternoon everyone and welcome to this week’s newsletter. Children have coped really well with the heat this week and managed to get through with very little disruption to learning so well done to them! We’ve had lots of great enrichment in the last fortnight, with a Viking workshop to enhance learning in year 5, Into University to support transition in year 6, and at last our year 5/6 sports day!
Next week, on Thursday 2nd July, children will be informed of their new classteachers for September and will spend two days with them in their new classrooms. This won’t affect dropping off/picking up as they will come in and go out of their usual doors at the start and end of the day. Please note, new classlists take some considerable time to complete and involve a large number of factors, therefore we are unable to make changes unless due to exceptional circumstances. Just a reminder for year 6 parents that are on secondary school transition days, pupils don’t come to our school at all, they go straight to their new schools on those days.
Please do take a look at the dates section in this newsletter as events are coming up thick and fast! Our summer fayre is on Thursday 9th July and all learning showcases/Y5 graduations/Y6 leavers’ assembly are now available to book on Arbor. No payment is needed but we do need to know who is coming for fire purposes. We envisage these events being very busy so please do book as entry may not be possible if the hall is at full capacity. End of year pupil reports will be given out on Friday 10th July.

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING AROUND SCHOOL?
During the Into Uni visit the year 6 pupils learn about transition into secondary school. They learnt topics such as time management, carrying all their resources with them that they need, timetables and discussed some misconceptions that people may hear about secondary school. Pupils did a variety of practical task to learn these topics, such as object hunting and played bord games which developed resilience and time management and independence. All skills needed for secondary school. The pupils really enjoyed their mornings with the staff from Into Uni and are more confident about going off to secondary school.
This week we were treated to a full history day with Bjorn and Portals to the Past, learning more about the Vikings but in an exciting and different way to what we have currently done in our lessons. This included learning how to play a Viking board game, looking at some of their everyday artefacts, before having a weapons and armour show.
What a fantastic Y5/6 Sports Day we had. Congratulations to Yellow team who won overall, everyone did brilliantly and it was wonderful to see so many parents in attendance. All topped off with a nice ice-cream treat!

In this week's cooking class we made different cookie which all went down very well.
We have come to the end of this session of lessons and those who took part have really enjoyed it. They also get to walk away with a new kitchen appliance courtesy of Lets Go Grimsby.
Looking forward to doing new session next academic year.
This week, Buttercups went to the Junior Singing Festival at the Grimsby Auditorium. The theme for the day was Songs around the World. In only three weeks, they learned calypso, jazz, pop, opera and folk songs, including the famous Lincolnshire Poacher. They were absolutely amazing, sang joyously and were a credit to themselves and the school. Roll on next year.

PE Kits
PE kit MUST be brought to school on your child's PE days,

PE kit should be worn for every PE lesson to ensure children are successful and safe during their session. Please ensure your child is wearing the school PE top with the WBJS logo, black or blue joggers/shorts and comfortable trainers.
WBJS NEWS ROUNDUP
Year 3 have had another busy and exciting few weeks! The children worked incredibly hard during Test Week and showed great determination and resilience. In DT, we have been learning about different types of bread, and we are looking forward to making our own bread towards the end of the summer term. In PSHCE, we have been learning about road and rail safety, discussing how to make safe choices when travelling.
In English, we have thoroughly enjoyed reading Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx. The children have written clear instructions explaining how to rescue Marcy's father from the Sphinx's belly and have had great fun solving the Sphinx's tricky riddles. With the recent warm weather, we have also been learning about how to stay safe in the heat by drinking plenty of water, wearing sun hats and applying sunscreen. To help everyone stay cool, the children were delighted to enjoy a well-earned ice lolly today!
What a busy and productive few weeks we have had in Year 4! The children showed incredible resilience and focus during our recent test week, and they approached our Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) week with maturity and thoughtfulness.
In our core subjects, we have officially stepped back in time to the Roman Empire, with the children busy drafting their own fascinating non-chronological reports about Roman life.
Meanwhile, our geography lessons have taken us on a journey comparing the UK to Italy, which ties in perfectly with our upcoming Design and Technology (DT) project. The children have already begun planning their very own healthy pizzas—we can't wait to see (and taste!) their culinary creations soon!
In year 5 we have been working very hard during our test week, showing off what we have learned since September and highlighting our progress ready for year 6. This week also included us learning maturely about how our bodies grow and will change as we enter puberty. All classes showed empathy and understanding towards others, even when some of the topics were strange to talk about at first.
We thoroughly enjoyed finally being able to compete in sports day now that the weather was on our side. Everyone in year 5 really impressed adults at the different stations, showing our resilience and ambition across the events. After this we were treated to a full history day with Bjorn and Portals to the Past, learning more about the Vikings.
In English we are currently working on our final big write of the year, creating our own Wonders to fit in The Nowhere Emporium - our current book. As well as this we are practicing hard for our final showcase and graduation ready to celebrate our achievements with family and friends at the end of the year.
We have had a fabulous couple of weeks in year 6 and covered a wide range of exciting lessons. In geography we have been learning more about the rainforests and why they are so important to our planet. We have studied a variety of biomes- have a look at our beautiful biomes in a jar. We have also learnt about the vegetation and animals that live in each biome. Our science has complimented this beautifully- we are learning about all living things and how scientists identify and classify.
In WCR we have enjoyed our text all about Great white sharks and how they are often maligned- ask us what that means.
During maths we have been consolidating our skills- we have recapped the mean, data handling and how to use a protractor.
In art we have re-capped some previous learning on ‘typography’ we have chosen a name of someone important to use and used water colours to produce a beautiful typography of their name.

With the exception of YouTube, WhatsApp has always been one of the most popular messaging apps, including for children under 13. Meta have now created a parent-managed service.
Similar to other parent-managed accounts, a parent will pair their device/account to the child's device/account which then gives a lot of flexibility such as:
No 'view once' messages.
No location sharing.
Messages and group invites from unknown contacts sent to the parent for approval.
Parent notifications, such as new contact added.
