Message from the Principal:
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to this week’s newsletter.
It's been a very busy fortnight in school, with half of year 6 out for a full week on their Into University trips including a visit to Hull University,
Mr Dawes running the football trials ready for upcoming matches and some wonderful violin playing in years 4 and 5.
We’ve also had some fabulous work produced in all year groups, with year 5 blowing me away with their diary writing and year 3 with their fantastic stone age history.
A reminder to all year 6 parents that our Fish N Tips night is on Monday at 3.30 in the school hall. This must be pre-booked on Arbor/at the office.
Next week we also have a dark night’s safety assembly with PC Mickleborough and the road safety team in preparation for the nights pulling in.
We have now set up our pupil voice groups and the children have already made a great suggestion.
They are organising our part in World Mental Health Day, where we are giving permission to wear yellow, and selling cookies for this cause.
This will be on Friday 10th October.

Well done to Buttercups who received 100% attendance last week! This is amazing for a group of children who have only been with us for 4 weeks!
We also need to celebrate that over half of the classes in school achieved 96% or above last week also. Keep up the hard work everyone.
Holidays During Term Time
While we understand the temptation of lower prices and family availability, we kindly remind parents and carers that holidays should be taken during the 13 weeks of school holidays available each year. Principals are only permitted to authorise leave during exceptional circumstances, and in line with national policy, unauthorised term-time holidays may result in a fixed penalty notice being issued.

Year 4 Swimming
As part of the PE curriculum, our year 4 students will take part in swimming lessons at Havelock on the following dates:
Group 1 dates - Monday 3rd/ 10th/ 17th/24th November and Monday 1st/8th of December.
Group 2 dates - Thursday 6th/13th/20th/27th November and Thursday 4th/11th December.
More information will be given closer to the time and a letter will be sent to all year 4 parents.
General Information
Please do not ride bikes and scooters on the school grounds, this is for children and adults. This is for the safety of our children, thank you.
Please note, electric scooters are not allowed on the school site due to health and safety regulations and not having the facilities to store them in school.
Please do not bring pets onto the school site due to health and safety regulations. This includes picking up from after school clubs.
PE Kits
PE kit MUST be brought to school on your child's PE days,
Year 3 and 4 will have PE Tuesday and Thursday
Year 5 and Year 6 will have PE Monday and Wednesday
PE kit should be worn for every PE lesson to ensure children are successful and safe during their session. Please ensure your child is wearing the school PE top with the WBJS logo, black or blue joggers/shorts and comfortable trainers.

Pupil Voice Groups
This week we have chosen our pupil voice groups who help to represent all children in school. Students have the opportunity to join our ambassador roles where they will be able to support, discuss and promote a particular area of the school curriculum or community. This year, our groups are as follows:

Next week, we will gather our groups together for their first meetings and publish their photos on the next newsletter.
In school, we celebrate our reading success and the children with a significant reading milestone. We identify those children with 'Reading Certificates' for our rewards:
Bronze award - 150 reads
Silver award - 200 reads
Gold award - 250 reads
Diamond award - 300+ reads
These children are celebrated in the 'Star of the Week' assembly with a personalised certificate and given a corresponding badge to wear with pride!
Sunflowers and Magnolias have had a fabulous week at Into University. They have worked hard together on various projects. They have researched inspirational people: Kevin Clifton, Barbara Hepworth, Steve Wonder and Khadija Saye. Each team created a poster on their inspirational person.
On Wednesday, they visited ‘The Yorkshire Sculpture Park’ where they experienced beautiful countryside and inspirational sculptures.
The fabulous week concluded with a ceremony at Hull University, where the children got to experience university life and to graduate.
We all very proud of how hard the children worked and their fabulous behaviour.
We ran an art competition in school a couple of weeks ago to help Aspire People with some new posters to celebrate their staff at their head office. This week they visited our school to present prizes to our winners.

On Friday 10th October 2025 we will be supporting World Mental Health day by wearing yellow in for the day. We will be talking to the children about how we can keep our minds healthy and how we can promote this amongst our school and community.

We all know that location sharing can be a really good thing, but only when that sharing is managed appropriately and only with very specific known persons, not to everyone. Thankfully, gone are the days when you uploaded a post onto social media your location was automatically included, but there are still location sharing features in some apps. As a timely reminder for parents to check their childs device the Canadian Cyber Tip Line has put together a very informative article which is useful for everyone, regardless of where you are in the world.
