Academy of Entrepreneurship and Information Design

Academy of Entrepreneurship and Information Design is for students considering careers in the field of business. Whether they want to build a business around goods or services, students interested in starting their own business participate in experiences that allow them to pursue their dreams by harnessing their creativity and energy to create a roadmap to success. As new or future entrepreneurs, students generate business ideas, conduct market research, write business plans, develop marketing strategies, pitch ideas to a business panel, and have opportunities to launch their very own companies. Students interested in the world of financial services learn about banking and credit, financial planning, securities, insurance, accounting, taxes and economics. In addition, this academy provides experiences for students who are interested in website development, which includes coding and website visuals. The Entrepreneurship and Marketing, World Banking and Finance, and Information Design pathways prepare students with the knowledge and skills needed to not only compete, but excel and thrive in the workforce or postsecondary education and training programs.

Academy of Health, Human, and Financial Services

Academy of Health, Human, and Financial Services provides opportunities for students interested in general health care, education, social and government services, personal and customer services, and financial services. The academic and technical courses and hands-on learning experiences prepare students to be productive and informed "Community Champions" who contribute to building a better society by improving the health and well-being of individuals through direct services, advocacy, and connections to vital services. Students study how people live and operate within society and examine how existing health and human services structures and systems impact individuals. Students interested in the world of financial services participate in learning experiences in banking and credit, financial planning, securities, insurance, accounting, taxes, and economics. Counseling, Nutrition and Wellness, and Financial Services pathways prepare students for entry into the workforce and/or postsecondary counseling, wellness and financial education.

Academy of Hospitality and Tourism

The Academy of Hospitality and Tourism is for students interested in hotel administration, restaurant management, culinary arts, event planning, and travel and tourism.

Academy of Law and Public Safety

Academy of Law and Public Safety (ALPS) is for students interested in law, criminal justice, forensic science, law enforcement, and emergency medical and fire services. The academy provides academic and technical courses and access to state-of-the-art technology as it prepares students for professions that ensure the safety, security, and wellness of the community. From hands-on time in the field with the Hampton Police Division’s K-9 officers and their partners, using 9-1-1 dispatch technology, hostage negotiation training, defending a client or prosecuting cases in a courtroom to learning CPR and triaging accidents, students hands on experiences are part of the preparation for high-demand careers in law and public safety. The Law and Legal Studies, Law Enforcement, and Fire Fighter/EMT pathways help students acquire the knowledge, skills and professional ethics that prepare them to meet their career goals right out of high school or successfully transition to postsecondary education and training programs.

Academy of Media Arts and Design

Academy of Media Arts and Design introduces students to the ever-expanding digital workplace and to the many and highly varied career opportunities in the visual arts and multi-media fields while providing the opportunity to develop their creative process skills. This academy is for students interested journalism, digital imaging, graphic design, social media/web design, digital photography, video editing and video production with career preparation. Along with academic and technical courses and access to industry-aligned technology provides, students explore new and emerging technologies including different software programs to make digital videos and create animations. The Journalism and Digital Media pathways equip students with the personal, analytical, digital multi-media skills, technical, and communications skills they need to thrive in careers and successfully transition to postsecondary education and training programs.

Academy of Teaching, Education, and Learning

Academy of Teaching, Education, and Learning provides students who are interested in developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of young children and youth with learning opportunities that prepares them for careers in the field of education, primarily in early childhood education and as K-12 teachers. While the Academy focuses on broad, transferable skills, it stresses understanding and demonstration of child growth and development, developmentally appropriate practices, classroom management, child abuse and neglect, and community, health, safety, nutrition and environmental issues. Through real world experiences students get a glimpse into the real life of a teacher, create developmentally appropriate experiences and lesson plans, and work with area preschools and elementary schools. The Child Development and Education and Training pathways prepare students for entry level positions in the workforce and success in postsecondary education and training programs.

Academy of Technology and Engineering

Academy of Technology and Engineering is focused on preparing students for promising careers in engineering, technology, and industry-based professions. The academy combines academic, technical courses, and access to software and technological equipment to help students acquire the skills needed for high demand technology and engineering careers. Experiences including learning and applying the design process, learning essential computer science skills, and using hardware and software in multimedia and systems integration projects. Students in this academy develop their creative and enterprising capacities as they engage in engineering and research projects that inspire their imaginations. The Engineering Design and Development, Information Technology, and Audio Engineering pathways prepare students with the knowledge and skills needed to not only compete, but excel and thrive in the workforce or postsecondary education and training programs.

Academy of the College Experience

Academy of the College Experience (ACE) creates an opportunity for students to complete a sequence of college-credit courses that will also count for high school graduation and earn up to two years of transferable college credit, tuition free, while still in high school. In partnership with Thomas Nelson Community College, ACE offers a three-year, academically rigorous program allows students to progress toward their next academic goal by compressing the timeline to obtain a college degree. In addition to the opportunity to earn a high school diploma and college degree simultaneously, the benefits include saving money on college tuition costs, a seamless transition from high school to college, and increased opportunities to earn higher wages. Students in ACE have the opportunity to earn an Associate of Social Science or Associate of Science degree before they graduate from high school, which increases career opportunities right out of high school and the postsecondary options.

Alternatives Inc. is a nationally recognized non-profit youth adult agency. Alternatives Inc programs empower middle and high school students to use their voices and skills to advocate for change in their schools, homes and communities. The Student Leadership program trains and teaches young people to facilitate and strategically plan and organize events to bring awareness to community needs and issues from a young persons perspective.

American Red Cross

Communities In Schools of Hampton Roads (CIS) helps students achieve success in school, graduate on time, and go on to bright futures. CIS Hampton Roads serves elementary, middle, and high school students in Portsmouth, Norfolk, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and Hampton City Public Schools. With the goal of surrounding students with a community of support and helping them succeed in the classroom and life, CIS site coordinators partner with local businesses, social service agencies, health care providers and volunteers to bring services students need into the school building. Hampton Commonwealth's Attorney's Office is responsible for to prosecuting criminal cases involving felonies and serious misdemeanors charged under the Code of Virginia occurring in within the locality. The Hampton Commonwealth's Attorney , a four-year elected position created by the Virginia constitution, is the chief law enforcement officer in Hampton and responsible for the work within the locality's office. JBLE Langley Fire Emergency Services, part of the 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron, is a fully accredited Fire Emergency Services Organization. Firefighting capabilities are essential on military bases, aircraft, and ships in order to protect their infrastructures, equipment, and people from fires, and to provide paramedical aid and hazard prevention services. Military firefighters do much more than fight fires. They also perform inspections to minimize fire dangers, provide first aid to accident victims, and respond to hazardous materials spills. The Army and Air Force operate with unusual materials and unique environments all over the world, therefore, JBLE Langley Fire Emergency Services personnel are also responsible for dealing with everything from brush fires to burning rocket fuel and hazardous material fires. MonarchTeach at Old Dominion University

MonarchTeach at Old Dominion University is a program targeted for undergraduate mathematics, science, or technology majors who are interested in expanding their professional skills and exploring a career in secondary teaching. Students have the opportunity to graduate in four years with a degree in his or her content area as well as obtain licensure as a highly qualified teachers. The program emphasizes field-based experiences early and throughout the college career. The MonarchTeach program provides designated resources such as program-specific classrooms, customized advising, dedicated workspaces equipped with technology tools, personal support from master teachers, mentors and other ODU faculty, and a well-supported student organization. In addition, MonarchTeach students are eligible for scholarships and paid internships with educational organizations in the community.

The On Stage Performing Arts Academy

The On Stage: Performing Arts Academy combines academic and applied instruction in the arts to help students discover and develop individual talent and interest while instilling an increased awareness of cultural literacy and the value of the arts in society. The academy is for students interested in being actors in theater, designing and constructing theater and stage sets, and becoming a professional dancer. Academy students participate in multiple opportunities to showcase their talents in the form of theatrical performances, recitals, concerts, rehearsals, and community appearances.

The Theater Performance and Theater Design and Technology pathways provide a professional, disciplined, and supportive atmosphere where students of all levels can succeed in obtaining the skills for entry level positions in the workforce or postsecondary education and training programs.

Peake Childhood Center is a nonprofit private early childhood education center serving children from 6 weeks old to 5 years. Since 1971 families across the Virginia Peninsula, and now Tidewater, and from all backgrounds, incomes, and abilities choose the Peake Childhood Center for high quality and sliding-scale tuition rate preschool for their young children. The Mariners’ Museum and Park

The Mariners’ Museum and Park mission is to connect people to the world’s waters, because that is how to be to one another. The Museum is committed to preservation and conservation of more than 32,000 objects and several million library and archive materials. Access to the collection is provided through exhibitions, loans, publications, educational programs, and online media. The Education Department provides history and science related programs to schools within the Hampton Roads region and throughout the United States and Canada. Free programming and transportation services makes it possible for the Museum to serve many local students. Thomas Nelson Community College - Fire and Emergency Medical Services

Thomas Nelson Community College - Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education Department prepares students to save lives through the exciting world of emergency services. TNCC Fire and EMS programs and courses prepare students to prevent emergencies when possible, minimize the effects of emergencies when emergencies do occur, and to provide confident and competent emergency and non-emergency medical care. Through a full suite of fire and emergency medical services education programs, TNCC provide high quality, "real-world” training, education, simulation. and internships. Along with dual enrollment opportunities for high schoolers, the degree and certificate programs, as well as industry specific certification courses, prepare students to graduate with educational credentials and/or take national level industry certification examinations in a variety of fire protection, prevention, suppression and/or emergency medical services specialties, including Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced EMT (AEMT) and Paramedic.

Thomas Nelson Community College - Small Unmanned Aircraft (Drone) Systems Program

Thomas Nelson Community College - Small Unmanned Aircraft (Drone) Systems Program offers classes in unmanned aircraft technology. Knowledge of the safe and legal operation of an unmanned aircraft (drones) and the collection of imagery for customers is on the forefront of employer demand for many new and emerging fields. This program develops these competencies and allows participants to succeed in this challenging and demanding field. Take a single class, earn a Career Studies Certificate (19 credits), or use this program as electives in the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Information Systems Technology or the AAS in Mechanical Engineering Technology and graduate with both an AAS degree and this Career Studies Certificate.

Flying a drone legally requires a FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification; in just one class, students acquire the knowledge needed to pass the required exam to earn the FAA Remote Pilot with small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) rating. In the Career Studies Certificate program students learn about regulations for small UAS (Drones) operations, loading and performance, emergency procedures, and, repair, maintenance and inspection procedures; learn how to fly manually and autonomously; and learn how to collect, process, analyze, manage, and share imagery for customers. Graduates from the program are in demand by a wide range of industries. The potential commercial uses of unmanned systems, or drones, are endless.

Transportation, Analytics, Information, and Logistics Academy (TRAIL) is for students interested in integrating operations management services with analytics and technology within the global supply chain. Students study the fundamental roles and importance of transportation and supply chain management in companies and society as well as the rapidly expanding field of logistics information technology. Students may also pursue studies in geospatial and drone technology to acquire knowledge and skills related analyzing, modeling, simulating and visualizing data that is referenced to the earth. Through Networking, Programming and Data Analysis, Geospatial Technology and Unmanned Systems, and Business Management and Logistics pathways, students in this academy will learn critical knowledge, skills, and credentials that will prepare them for high-demand careers in transportation and logistics.

USAF/633 Security Forces Squadron

USAF/633 Security Forces is part of the 633rd Air Base Wing (Joint Base Langley-Eustis). The 633rd is comprised of three groups that provide installation support to more than 9,000 military and civilian personnel including Headquarters Air Combat Command and three operational wings. The Wing provides mission-ready expeditionary Airmen to combatant commanders in support of joint Air Force and Army units and combined operations worldwide. USAF/633 provides civil engineering, security, communications services, logistics readiness and force support. Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) can be a vital asset for military personnel to gather information as well as create a threat to military personnel and resources, therefore, the USAF/633 Security Forces concerns include anti-drone concepts of operations, tactics, techniques and procedures designed to meet the need to rapidly deploy to areas with a significant drone threat. USAF/633 will display military equipment and counter drone systems at MFMJ.

VersAbility Resources

VersAbility Resources supports people with disabilities in leading productive and fulfilling lives. Since its founding in 1953, VersAbility Resources has envision a world where people with disabilities enjoy dignified, productive lives of their choosing as fully accepted members of society. Today, this comprehensive service provider annually serves over 1,300 people with disabilities and their families in early childhood, student services, day support, residential, and four diverse employment programs. Services range from coordinating developmental therapies for children to building successful business partnerships that provide staffing solutions for employers and provide jobs in Hampton Roads and beyond for people with disabilities. Adults with disabilities participating in VersAbility Resources employment programs earn millions in wages and benefits annually. In addition to serving the entire Hampton Roads region, as well as the 10 counties on the Middle Peninsula, VersAbility Resources provides federal contract staffing through their government contracts, through which people with disabilities work alongside enlisted and civilian personnel at military bases as far away as Hawaii.

Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) provides resources and educational outreach to the state’s more than seven million residents in the areas of agriculture and natural resources, family and consumer sciences, community viability, and 4-H youth development. As an educational outreach program of Virginia Tech and Virginia State University, and a part of the National Institute for Food and Agriculture, VCE offers university-based, scientifically-proven information and programs. Agriculture and Natural Resources programs focus on sustaining agricultural and forestry production, while protecting land and water resources; helping small, limited-resource farmers and ranchers to own, operate and sustain farms and ranches; holistically addressing production, harvesting, marketing and the distribution of vegetables and small fruits through urban farming, container gardening, and backyard gardening. Family and Consumer Sciences programs promote healthy physical, cognitive, social, and emotional well-being; promote healthy lifestyle choices with a focus on nutrition, chronic diseases, sexually-transmitted diseases, and childhood obesity; and provide financial management educational programs, mentoring and coaching for individuals, families and entrepreneurs. In addition to agents who provide one-on-one support and community programs, VCE answers questions and provides online help through two, interconnected websites that provide access to thousands of publications, news items, tips, and videos.

Youth Sailing Virginia's mission is to develop a vibrant Youth Sailing Program that serves the greater Hampton Roads area and involves a broad spectrum of the community in both support and participation.
