2.Gather Information

Effective note cards continue the process of analyzing your material and help avoid plagiarism.  

Whether print or digital, note cards should contain the following:

  • Citation information 

  • Source text or media 

  • Your paraphrase 

  • Personal insight or connections 


It’s also important to include only one idea per note card.  This makes it easier to organize your thoughts when creating an outline.
