JROTC, NAVAL SCIENCE 1 (7913)
This course introduces the student to the importance of citizenship, leadership, government, and the value of scholarship in attaining life goals. Additionally, the student will:
• Demonstrate patriotism and community involvement.
• Identify personal hygiene and physical fitness standards.
• Identify traits and behaviors of effective military and civilian leaders.
• Identify stress management techniques, healthy dietary habits, and the basics of first aid.
• Identify the benefits of the NJROTC program, Navy core values, and military chain of command.
• Students will participate in a drill laboratory where they will demonstrate the discipline of precision drill.
JROTC, NAVAL SCIENCE 2 (7916)
Prerequisites: Naval Science 1 (7913)
This course introduces the student to maritime history, the nautical sciences, and the role of the U. S. Navy from the American Revolution to the new millennium. Additionally, the student will:
• Explore maritime geography, geopolitics, oceanography, meteorology, and physical science as they relate to careers in the military.
• Explore military careers in aviation, surface, and subsurface specialties.
• Develop techniques to improve their personal physical fitness compared to national standards.
• Students will participate in a drill laboratory where they will use the discipline of precision drill as a training tool to lead their peers.
JROTC, NAVAL SCIENCE 3 (7918)
Prerequisites: Naval Science 2 (7916)
This course broadens the student’s understanding of military leadership, citizenship, discipline and the concept of teamwork. The importance of sea power and national security are explored. Additionally, the student will:
• Gain a more in-depth knowledge of naval ships, aircraft, naval operations, military law, and international law and the sea.
• Be introduced to ship construction, damage control, shipboard organization, humanitarian missions, and merchant marines.
• Analyze their personal physical fitness data and develop a plan to improve their fitness.
• Students will participate in a drill laboratory where they will lead younger students and peers in the discipline of precision drill.
JROTC, NAVAL SCIENCE 4 (7919)
Prerequisites: Naval Science 3 (7918)
This course provides instruction in theoretical and applied aspects of leadership, individual training, and evaluation of individual and team performance. Emphasis is placed on practical leadership techniques. Additionally, the student will:
• Be mentored/guided in the preparation of postsecondary opportunities.
• Be placed in supervised positions of leadership of junior cadets.
• Analyze unit retention, fitness, academic, and recruitment data to determine reasons for varying degrees of success.
• A more in-depth knowledge of naval ships, aircraft, naval operations, military law, and international law and the sea.
• Be introduced to ship construction, damage control, shipboard organization, humanitarian missions, and merchant marines.
• Students will participate in a drill laboratory where they will lead younger students and peers in the discipline of precision drill.
