Banned Books Week

What is Banned Books Week?

Each year, the American Library Association (ALA) sets aside the last week of September to celebrate our freedom to read whatever we choose. Some people judge books and decide they are not good choices for others. We believe that everyone should be able to decide for themselves what to read.

When we are able to pick our own books, it helps us to identify as a reader. This is important to keep all people reading and choosing books! Banned Books Week gives us time to celebrate the ability to choose any book.

For more information about Banned Books Week, please see the links on this page, or ask your librarian.

Diversity is not just Okay, it's GOOD!
