Meet Our New AmeriCorps VISTA for Basic Needs!

Give a Warm Welcome to Julien!

Julien (they/them/theirs), a Hamline Alumni (2023), is our brand new Basic Needs AmeriCorps VISTA for Hamline University in the Wesley Center. While Julien was a student at Hamline they were heavily involved with the Food Resource Center (the FRC) and they were a huge part of putting on the basic needs fair! Along with being a part of the FRC, Julien was involved in the oracle, IGNITE, & served on HUSC as an advocacy representative during their time at Hamline.

With a BBA in Business Management and a BA in Political Science along with all of their experience working with communities at Hamline University, we are so excited to have Julien aid in establishing a foundation for existing long-to-basic needs to exist and provide non-academic resources to low-income and underrepresented individuals.

What is AmeriCorps VISTA?

AmeriCorps VISTA, founded in 1965, is a national service program that was designed to combat poverty. VISTA stands for Volunteers in Service to America. The mission of AmeriCorps VISTA is something that Julien is super passionate about.

Julien's Goals for Basic Needs

In this new role, Julien wants to keep contributing to making basic needs more accessible for students and creating more general awareness of the resources that are available for students on campus. Julien also wants to aid in creating spaces for new resources that might not be available yet for students. One of the biggest goals Julien has for this position is to be able to work effectively with students and student organizations on campus. Julien is here to support students and they are looking forward to getting to know everyone and making an impact on campus for basic needs.

Make sure to say hi to Julien if you see them around, make them feel welcome as our new AmeriCorps VISTA!
