Office of Clinical Experience

Office of Clinical Experience

The Office of Clinical Experience purposefully bridges the content and course work Hamline School of Education and Leadership students gain in the classroom with meaningful and positive clinical experiences in neighboring schools and school districts.

Our change from Placement Office to Office of Clinical Experience is an intentional shift, as Hamline, through our work as a Twin Cities Collaborative institute of higher education, strives to create stronger relationships with our K-12 school partners.

Student Teaching

The required Pre-Student Teaching Intake session is available through Workday. The session is called GED 7802 Preparing to Student Teach: Advising and Reflecting. This is a 0 credit course that takes place once during each semester for 2.5 hours.

Please see this document for dates and timeline for enrolling in the session.

You must submit an application the semester you plan to complete student teaching in.

Contact Danielle Zdon (dzdon01@hamline.edu) with any questions.

Please review the Student Teaching Checklist and Intake Resource Packet for important information regarding the process for student teaching.  Review the SEPBT Outline for suggestions on writing your SEPBT Rationale Paper.  You can view a sample paper here

Background Check For All Clinical Experiences

Students are responsible for completing, submitting, and paying for all background checks.  This includes all field experience and student teaching placements. Specific school district background checks and directions can be found here:

Student Teacher Supervisor Application

HSEL is always seeking experience and talented teachers to serve as supervisors for our student teachers.  If you are interested in being considered for this work, we encourage you to submit an application found  here.  We particularly encourage applications from members of underrepresented groups such as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, veterans, and those with disabilities.

Applications for fall semester supervisors will be reviewed each May.  Applications for spring semester supervisors will be reviewed each November.  All applications are held for one year after submission.
