About Band at SSI:

The band experience in the Hamilton School District begins in 5th grade at Silver Spring Intermediate School. In 5th grade students develop a foundation of knowledge and skills on which we build in 6th grade. Students in band at SSI in 6th grade perform in two concerts each year, one in winter and one in spring. We also hold an annual band festival each spring.

Learning Targets:

1. Students will develop both individual and ensemble performance skills

2. Students will play with correct posture, breath support and control in all ranges, demonstrate proper playing position, and play with correct articulation and phrasing

3. Students will play in various meters, dynamics ranges, and perform music from various genres and styles

4. Students will play and demonstrate knowledge of various key signatures, note names, and rhythms

5. Students will demonstrate knowledge of various music terminology

6. Students will evaluate their own performance and the performance of others
