Biography
My name is Emma Jean Yancey and I am a West Hall High School Senior. I have only had two art classes in high school, which were visual arts one and the IB Art course. However, I have been drawing since I was in fifth grade. I have loved art for as long as I can remember and that is why I was sure I would thrive in IB Art. My first class in high school was my freshman year and I had so much fun getting out of my comfort zone and learning how to paint. I accomplished a lot my freshman year but continued to draw with pen and ink through my sophomore year even though I did not have an art class.
IB Art began my fascination with other art styles. By this point, I had mastered drawing with pen and it was my preferred art style. As a result, I found painting and other mediums a bit uncomfortable. My teacher, however, strongly encouraged me to try other styles and mediums. Through this exploration, I discovered that I actually like using other mediums and began to pursue growth in them as well. By doing this, I have mastered techniques in various mediums and have found that I actually really enjoy collaging, especially in my sketchbook. I hope to apply this curious mindset to the rest of my life and to maintain friendships I have established in my years in IB. Thank you art friends for helping me with my journey. I will never forget your dedication.
