Each session will have one theme day on the second Thursday of the session. There will be the dress-up day for this week where we invite all campers and staff to dress to the theme! An email will be sent to you from your camper's Unit Director before the session starts and will include information about the theme days.
Please note, this summer there will only be one special theme day during the session instead of the two there have been in previous years.
Session 1
Space Day
Blast off! Astronauts and aliens visit Hale Day Camp.
Session 2
Gold Rush
Pirates and cowboys will hunt for hidden treasure
Session 3
Halloween Day
Costumes encouraged.
Session 4

How to Pack a Healthy, Camp-Ready Lunch
All our camps are packed with adventure, and that means campers need fuel! A well-packed lunch helps kids stay energized, hydrated, and happy through long, hot days outside. Below are tips tailored to each of our camp types.
Hot Weather Hacks for Every Camper
Use insulated lunch bags and two cold packs
Avoid mayo or dairy-heavy items unless you’re sure they’ll stay cold
Frozen fruit or yogurt? Great mid-day cool-down
Label everything — especially water bottles and lunch gear!
Campers at Day Camp swim, hike, play group games, and explore nature, all outdoors!
Top Priorities: Balanced nutrition, hydration, and easy-to-eat foods for younger campers.
Sample Lunch Idea:
Sandwich or wrap with lean protein (turkey, cheese, SunButter)
Fruit (apple slices, grapes, melon cubes)
Veggie sticks (carrots, cucumbers, peppers)
Snack: crackers, pretzels, or a granola bar
Full water bottle (label it!)
Cold pack or frozen yogurt tube to keep things fresh
Skip: Candy, soda, glass containers, and anything that needs reheating or stays cold without an ice pack.
For our youngest campers, changing out of wet bathing suits can be one of the most challenging parts of the camp day. It can be helpful to have young campers practice this skill at home! Having them try on their bathing suit during bath time or at your favorite local swim spot can help them build this skill and feel more successful and confident going into the changing rooms.
On the second Wednesday of each session, Middle and Teen campers will be going offsite together to have an exciting experience at the following locations:
Session 1, Wed, July 1 - Southwick's Zoo
Session 2, Wed, July 15 - Xtreme Craze
Session 3, Wed, July 29 - West End Creamery
Session 4, Wed, August 12- Ecotarium
*Please note that field trips are subject to change.
Field Trip permission slips coming soon!
Teen campers enjoy an additional swim block following the end of the traditional camp day to jumpstart the overnight!
Campers build their skills by setting up their tents by themselves (with staff support if they need, of course)!
After a game of capture the flag, teens enjoy a hotdog dinner and a s'mores dessert!
Part of the teen camp overnight is the night hike where the group walks silently to our North Beach location to experience Hale at night! This part of the experience provides them with a new perspective of nature including fireflies lighting up the fields, new sounds they wouldn't hear during the daytime, and an unobstructed sky full of stars.

We're thrilled you have chosen Hale to help your child foster a strong relationship with the great outdoors and learn leadership skills that will serve them well, whether their first job is as a camp counselor or an opportunity outside the camping world!
Week 1
The CIT Program begins with training on workplace policies, camp structures, and routines. Participants also have opportunities to explore several Hale programs and various positions. Participants also have opportunities to engage in various camp activities and events.
Participants will come away with hard and soft skills related to camp work. In addition, they will foster camaraderie among participants and cultivate a creative mindset as they are introduced to Hale's programs and summer positions.
Week 2
During the second week, participants will work on a specific program or activity of their choice. They will shadow counselors and campers and assist as needed. Each day, they will have time to journal about their experience and also work on an independent curriculum project.
The goals for this week are for participants to gain a better understanding of individual programs and how they work, learn how to build a curriculum, and gain plenty of hands-on experience.
Weeks 3 and 4
Over the last two weeks, participants will meet with a leader who will serve as a guide and mentor. They will work on a service project, event, or spend time volunteering in a particular department or area. Projects, events, and volunteering are all focused on "paying it forward" and leaving Hale a little better than how you found it.
When the four weeks are complete, participants will receive volunteer hours for the time they worked.
The second summer as a CIT allows campers to utilize and enhance skills they learned in their first year following a similar structure. The expectations are higher, and we expect the they will be role models for our first-year CITs.
