SC Seal of Biliteracy
The South Carolina Seal of Biliteracy advances the state's commitment to preparing every learner for college- and career-readiness in an increasingly international community. We recognize learners who attain levels of proficiency in English and at least one other world language required in the global workforce. The South Carolina Seal of Biliteracy serves to certify attainment of biliteracy for students, employers, and universities and has three levels: bronze, silver, and gold
Who is Eligible to apply in Greenwood 50?
Juniors and seniors who know another language and would like to participate in the world language assessment can complete an application process in the fall.
Students also must maintain either a 3.0 GPA in ELA, or score an overall score of 4.0 on the ACCESS 2.0 English Proficiency Test.

SC Seal of Distinction in World Languages
Beginning with the freshman class of 2018-19, Greenwood 50 students have the opportunity to earn graduation Seals of Distinction within each high school diploma pathway.
The Diploma Pathways Seals of Distinction for World Language differs from the South Carolina Seal of Biliteracy.
This year, the earning of this graduation seal is based upon the following criteria:
completing a four course concentration in the same language;
and/or demonstrating proficiency with a score of “Intermediate Low” or higher on the American Council for Teaching of Foreign Language (ACTFL). AP exams of 3 or higher or IB exams of 4 or higher may demonstrate proficiency if courses are taken before the senior year.
English Learners may complete the same criteria above but also demonstrate English proficiency with a Level 5 composite score or higher on the ACCESS language proficiency test.
Students also must earn a GPA on the State Uniform Grading Scale of 3.0 or higher.
The Diploma Pathways Seal of Distinction for World Language can be earned with a minimum of Intermediate Low. Intermediate Low does not qualify a student to earn a SC Seal of Biliteracy, but students who barely miss the SC Seal of Biliteracy by having a minimum of Intermediate Low could may be eligible for a Seal of Distinction.
Global Seal of Biliteracy
The Global Seal of Biliteracy program is independent and separate from the South Carolina Seal of Biliteracy program.
The Global Seal of Biliteracy is an international credential that conveys proficiency with language skills in two or more languages for our qualifying candidates.
This credential offers a competitive advantage for bilingual individuals by helping them earn scholarships, higher pay, advanced placement, increased study abroad opportunities and so much more.
The Global seal recognizes 3 levels of fluency: functional, working, and professional fluency.
